Kleinite crystals from Terlingua, TX, USA – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen displays very small yellow Kleinite crystals from the classic mercury locality of Terlingua, Texas, USA. The crystals are only clearly visible under magnification and occur as fine, spot-like to weakly aggregated formations on the light to brownish matrix. Due to their minute size, individual crystal shapes are subtle; instead, the characteristic color and typical occurrence within the mineralized zones define the specimen’s authentic and collectible appearance.

Geology & Origin

The Terlingua district is renowned for its exceptional diversity of secondary mercury minerals formed within the oxidation zone of former cinnabar deposits. Kleinite develops under arid conditions as a rare mercury ammonium sulfate when mercury-bearing solutions interact with sulfur- and ammonium-rich components. Terlingua is considered one of the world’s classic localities for Kleinite and related mercury minerals, particularly in fine-crystalline specimens.
