Kintoreite crystals from Adolphine Mine, near Hochscheid, Hunsrück, Germany – miniature specimen as unique piece

 

This unique specimen features Kintoreite crystals in dark brown to blackish-brown tones with a strong resinous to greasy lustre. Densely intergrown crystals cover large areas of the matrix, giving the specimen a bold and highly textured appearance. Its intense lustre and compact crystal growth make this an attractive miniature specimen for collectors of rare phosphate minerals.

Geology & Origin

Kintoreite is a rare lead-iron phosphate that forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of lead-bearing ore deposits. The Adolphine Mine near Hochscheid in the Hunsrück region is a well-known locality for rare secondary minerals produced by the weathering of ore bodies. Kintoreite from this historic locality is especially valued for its well-developed crystals and rarity.
