Jahnsite crystals from the Tip Top Mine, South Dakota, USA, Gerd Tremmel collection – Scab as unique piece

This normal size specimen features several clearly visible Jahnsite crystals, partly sharp-edged and well separated, set on a contrasting dark matrix. The crystals display characteristic yellowish to brownish-pink tones and stand out distinctly from the host rock. The crystal formation is attractive and well defined for this rare phosphate mineral group, making the specimen especially appealing to advanced collectors.

Geology & Origin

The Tip Top Mine in South Dakota is a classic locality for complex secondary phosphate minerals. Jahnsite forms here as a late-stage mineral within pegmatites, typically as a result of alteration processes affecting phosphate-rich primary minerals under hydrothermal conditions. Originating from the renowned Gerd Tremmel collection, this specimen represents the mineralogical diversity of the locality in a documented and convincing manner.
