Hyalite, UV-active (shortwave) from Zacatecas, Mexico – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This Hyalite specimen from Zacatecas, Mexico, displays the characteristic glassy, transparent to slightly milky formations of this mineral on natural matrix. Depending on the individual specimen, the surfaces may exhibit botryoidal, grape-like, or coating-like structures, giving each piece its own distinctive appearance. A notable feature of many Hyalite specimens from this famous locality is their intense green fluorescence under shortwave UV light, which beautifully highlights the delicate surface structures.

Geology & origin

Zacatecas is one of the classic sources of UV-active opals in the volcanically influenced regions of central Mexico. The Hyalite formed hydrothermally at low temperatures within open cavities of tuffaceous rocks. The combination of rare UV fluorescence and typical globular habit makes specimens like this highly desirable for collectors.
