Heterogenite from the Blue Jay Mine, Nevada – miniature specimen as a unique piece

This miniature specimen displays Heterogenite in a dark, irregular mineralized mass. Its surface has a dense, granular appearance, with tiny silvery points catching the light against the brown to steel-gray ground. Scattered turquoise-green and rusty-orange areas add contrast to the dark overall color.

Different angles reveal varied textures and subtle flashes across the surface. Compact in size, this piece is well suited to a small collection and shows the visual character of Heterogenite even without clearly formed individual crystals.

Geology & Origin

The Blue Jay Mine is located in the Goodsprings Mining District of Clark County, Nevada. Heterogenite is a cobalt-bearing oxidation mineral that can form secondarily as cobalt-bearing mineralization weathers and alters. The mine is documented for Heterogenite; older geological studies describe it in weathered material and replacing dolomite.
