Hatchite and Binnite crystals from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland –  miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features crystals of Hatchite and Binnite from the Lengenbach Quarry, Binntal, Valais, Switzerland. Set on a light, finely textured matrix, the contrasting minerals are clearly visible and form a paragenesis that is characteristic of this classic locality. Despite its small size, the association of Hatchite and Binnite gives the specimen considerable mineralogical significance and makes it a representative example of the diversity found at Lengenbach. The specimen is well documented and was analytically examined under reference EDXPR-2721 on September 6, 1989.

Geology & Origin

Hatchite and Binnite are rare arsenic-bearing sulfosalts for which the Lengenbach Quarry is internationally renowned. They formed within an exceptionally complex geochemical environment in dolomitic host rocks, which allowed the development of a remarkable variety of unique mineral species. The Binntal area is regarded as one of the most important localities worldwide for such specialized mineral associations and is of great interest to both collectors and mineralogical research.
