Hackmanite (Sodalite), UV-active, from Sar-e-Sang, Afghanistan – 100 g

This 100 g lot consists of natural Hackmanite rough pieces in a range of sizes. The material displays soft to vivid shades of purple, blue and pink, accompanied by occasional light to white areas. One of its most remarkable features is its strong orange fluorescence under longwave UV light (365 nm), making Hackmanite highly desirable for mineral collections, fluorescent mineral displays and educational purposes.

Geology & Locality

Hackmanite is the sulfur-rich variety of Sodalite and belongs to the feldspathoid mineral group. It typically forms in silica-poor igneous rocks such as nepheline syenites and in contact metamorphic environments. The famous Sar-e-Sang deposit in Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan, is one of the world's best-known localities for high-quality Sodalite and Hackmanite. Material from this locality is especially valued for its attractive colours and its pronounced UV fluorescence.
