Guérinite crystals from the Getchell Mine, Nevada, USA – small cabinet specimen

White, bladed to tabular-looking Guérinite crystals cover large areas of the specimen. They contrast clearly with the yellow-orange to rusty-brown areas and the dark matrix. The specimen’s elongated shape and the interplay between the pale crystal-covered sections and the colorful underlying rock create a strikingly varied surface.

Geology & Origin

The Getchell Mine in Nevada is a gold deposit known for its arsenic-rich mineralization. Guérinite is a hydrous calcium arsenate and occurs as a secondary mineral in arsenic-rich deposits. It forms as arsenic-bearing minerals weather and arsenic-rich solutions react with calcium-bearing material.
