Goosecreekite, Epistilbite and Heulandite crystals from Jalgaon, India; Gerd Tremmel collection– small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen presents a very harmonious combination of Goosecreekite, Epistilbite and Heulandite from Jalgaon, India, originating from the Gerd Tremmel collection. The white to slightly translucent Goosecreekite and Epistilbite crystals form extensive crusts and clearly crystalline coatings on dark basaltic matrix. Intergrown with them are clear to milky Heulandite crystals, locally showing well developed crystal faces and sharp edges. The crystals are clearly recognizable and give the specimen a calm and balanced overall appearance due to their light coloration and varied surface textures.
Geology & Origin
The Jalgaon area is part of the Deccan Traps and is well known for its zeolite rich mineral parageneses formed within cavities of basaltic lava flows. Goosecreekite, Epistilbite and Heulandite crystallize from low temperature hydrothermal solutions that circulated through fractures and gas vesicles after the lava had solidified. The slow precipitation of these minerals resulted in the characteristic well formed crystals and crusts for which Indian zeolite specimens are highly regarded worldwide. The provenance from a renowned collection further enhances the scientific and collector value of this specimen.
