Goethite crystals from Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico – small cabinet specimen as unique piece
This attractive small cabinet specimen features a natural geode lined with numerous Goethite crystals within a drusy cavity. The interior surfaces are densely covered by sparkling microcrystals, hosting several clearly visible rosette-like Goethite crystal aggregates. The crystals display an appealing silky to slightly metallic luster and create an attractive contrast against the light-colored quartz druse. The well-developed crystal rosettes give the specimen an outstanding aesthetic appearance and make it a desirable collector's piece.
Geology & Origin
Goethite is a widespread iron oxyhydroxide mineral that commonly forms through the weathering of iron-bearing minerals. Under favorable conditions it can also develop distinct crystals and characteristic rosette-shaped aggregates. The Chihuahua region of Mexico is renowned for its diverse mineral occurrences and regularly produces aesthetic iron minerals associated with quartz and other secondary mineral species. Drusy geodes containing well-formed Goethite crystals such as this specimen are especially appreciated by collectors of decorative mineral specimens.
