Geversite, Maslovite, Paolovite, Moncheite, Insizwaite and Sperrylite from Norilsk, Russia – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen features Geversite, Maslovite, Paolovite, Moncheite, Insizwaite and Sperrylite from Norilsk, Russia. It is a polished section of an analyzed ore sample, where the different mineral phases appear as metallic lustrous golden yellow to silvery gray areas. The polished surface reveals the complex intergrowth of the individual minerals, showing fine network like textures and irregular inclusions typical for such multi phase platinum group element ores.

Geology & origin

The Norilsk deposits in Russia are among the most important sources of nickel, copper and platinum group elements worldwide. Minerals such as Geversite, Maslovite, Paolovite, Moncheite, Insizwaite and Sperrylite form in magmatic sulfide deposits, where different metal phases separate and concentrate during the cooling of magma derived melts. Polished sections of such samples are commonly used for mineralogical analysis, as they clearly display the complex intergrowths and formation processes of the individual minerals.
