A mineralogically intriguing combination of rare arsenic minerals from a classic locality in Nevada.

Geology & origin

The Getchell Mine in Nevada, USA, is a well-known locality for secondary arsenic and sulfosalt minerals formed under hydrothermal conditions in mineralized rock zones. Getchellite is a rare sulfide arsenic mineral with distinctive red to reddish-brown color, named after its type locality. Orpiment, a classic yellow arsenic sulfide, typically forms in the oxidation zones of arsenic-rich ore deposits and has a long history as a natural pigment.
