Geode fragment with crystals from Morocco – unique specimen

This large geode fragment from Morocco shows a widely opened cavity whose inner surfaces are densely covered with white to colourless crystals. The crystals occur in aggregates of varying sizes and create a richly textured, sparkling surface, while the exterior retains the natural rock shell of the geode. The generously exposed cavity allows the mineral formation inside to be viewed particularly well. The complete specimen shown in the pictures is offered as a unique piece with 9 kg.

Geology & Origin

Geodes form when mineral-rich solutions accumulate within cavities in rock over long periods of time and minerals crystallize along the inner walls. Repeated mineral deposition can eventually line the cavities partly or completely with mineral aggregates. Morocco is known for numerous localities producing geodes and druses occurring in a variety of sedimentary and volcanic rocks.
