This lot consists of 100 g of Garnet (Almandine) from the Jaipur area in India, comprising natural, unprocessed crystals and crystal fragments with sizes ranging from approx. 1 to 5 cm. The almandine crystals typically show dark red-brown to purplish-red hues and occur mostly in compact, rounded to angular crystal forms. Surfaces are matte to slightly lustrous, with crystal structures clearly visible on many pieces. The material is completely natural and unworked, preserving its original texture and natural color variations. The selection is mineralogically diverse and well suited for collections, educational purposes, or comparative study material.

Geology & origin

Almandine is an iron-rich garnet species that forms predominantly under metamorphic conditions, commonly within mica schists and related rocks. The Jaipur region in India is a well-known source of garnets, where they crystallize within metamorphic host rocks. Formation takes place under high pressure and elevated temperatures, resulting in dense and robust crystal forms. Indian almandine garnets are widely known internationally and are valued by collectors as well as for teaching and reference collections.
