Embedded Gagarinite crystals from Gjerdingen, Norway – micromount as unique piece
This micromount shows embedded Gagarinite crystals within a light-colored, coarse-grained matrix containing dark mineral inclusions. The Gagarinite crystals occur within the rock and are specifically indicated by the red marker arrow.
Geology & Origin
Gagarinite is a rare fluoride mineral containing rare-earth elements and occurs particularly in alkaline rocks and related pegmatitic mineralization. Gjerdingen in Norway is known for its mineralogically unusual alkaline rocks and the occurrence of various rare minerals, including species containing rare-earth elements.
