Fossilized (petrified) wood with Chalcedony; green; Indonesia; unique piece
Fossilized (petrified) wood with Chalcedony, green, from Indonesia. 940 g as unique piece.
This 940 g piece of fossilized wood from Indonesia shows striking replacement and preservation by green chalcedony, displayed in finely banded and botryoidal (grape-like) surface structures. Strong green, blue-green and yellow tones alternate with darker, organic-looking areas, giving the specimen impressive visual depth. The broad, rounded chalcedony formations across the front exhibit a slightly glossy, waxy sheen under light. Natural color transitions and textures highlight the original wood structure, which has been fully embedded and preserved through chalcedony.
Geology & Origin
Fossil wood from Indonesia forms in volcanically influenced sedimentary environments where organic material is mineralized by silica-rich fluids over long geological periods. During this process, the wood’s structure is preserved in fine detail while being replaced by chalcedony. The vivid green coloration often results from trace amounts of nickel or iron incorporated during silification. Specimens like this one clearly reflect the complex geochemical conditions of Indonesia’s tropical weathering and mineralisation zones.
