Foitite and Cassiterite crystals from Viloco, Bolivia– miniature specimen as unique piece

This thumbnail specimen displays numerous Foitite and Cassiterite crystals in a dense, contrasting intergrowth. Dark grey to black lustrous crystals cover large areas of the specimen and are accompanied by lighter yellowish-beige to grey crystal sections. The different crystal forms, colours and surface textures create a distinctly structured mineral specimen. This unique specimen originates from Viloco, Bolivia.

Geology & Origin

Foitite is an iron-rich tourmaline, while Cassiterite is a tin oxide and the most important ore mineral of tin. The Viloco deposit in the Bolivian Andes is particularly known for hydrothermal tin mineralization and well-developed Cassiterite crystals. Mineral-rich hydrothermal fluids produced a variety of tin, tourmaline and associated minerals within fractures and mineralized zones of the host rock.
