Geology & Locality
Franklin Furnace in Sussex County, New Jersey, is one of the world's most famous localities for fluorescent minerals. The deposit formed through the metamorphism of manganese-rich sedimentary rocks and is renowned for its exceptional mineral diversity. More than 350 mineral species have been identified from the district, including many rare and strongly fluorescent minerals. Its unique geological setting and remarkable UV-active specimens have made Franklin Furnace a classic locality for mineral collectors around the world.
