Fluorapatite crystals from Binntal, Switzerland – miniature specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen displays pale, colorless to whitish Fluorapatite crystals on a contrasting matrix. The crystals are well developed, with clearly visible crystal faces and a vitreous luster in places. Dark mineral areas provide a distinct contrast to the pale Fluorapatite crystals.

Geology & Origin

The Binn Valley in the Swiss canton of Valais is one of the classic and mineralogically most important localities in the Alps. The region is particularly renowned for its exceptionally diverse mineral assemblages, which occur in Alpine fissures and metamorphic rocks. Fluorapatite can occur here as well-crystallized fissure material and forms part of the diverse mineralogy of this historic Swiss locality.
