Ferrotschermakite from Kaveltrop, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece

The small cabinet specimen shows Ferrotschermakite in a compact, dark-gray to nearly black formation with a pronounced metallic-like luster. Its surface is characterized by numerous elongated, lath-shaped mineral structures, some of which are arranged in parallel. Larger, distinctly striated areas with silvery-gray reflections are particularly noticeable in the central section. The irregular texture, appearing partly fibrous to platy, gives the specimen a varied appearance. The mineral originates from Kaveltrop, Sweden, and is offered as a unique specimen.

Geology & Origin

Ferrotschermakite is an iron-rich amphibole mineral belonging to the hornblende group and is classified as a complex chain silicate. It forms predominantly under metamorphic conditions in iron- and aluminum-rich rocks, particularly at elevated temperatures and pressures. It may develop through the alteration of pre-existing silicate minerals. Sweden forms part of the ancient Fennoscandian Shield, whose rocks have been shaped by extensive igneous and metamorphic processes. The Kaveltrop locality belongs to this geological setting.
