Ferrisicklerite from Rio Namibe, Angola, Gerd Tremmel collection – miniature specimen as unique piece
Ferrisicklerite on this miniature specimen occur as fine grained to compact aggregates displaying yellow brown, ochre, and locally greenish tones. Individual crystal outlines are only weakly developed, yet the overall crystalline nature is clearly recognizable. The surface appears irregularly textured, ranging from matte to slightly silky, which is characteristic for Ferrisicklerite from pegmatitic environments. Well formed, free standing single crystals are not present; instead, the specimen consists of crystalline aggregates on a compact matrix.
Geology & Origin
Ferrisicklerite is a lithium bearing iron phosphate that forms as a secondary alteration product of primary lithium phosphates such as Triphylite or Sicklerite. It develops in granitic pegmatites under oxidizing conditions. The Rio Namibe area in Angola is well known for complex lithium pegmatites and a wide range of rare phosphate minerals. Specimens from the Gerd Tremmel collection additionally carry strong historical and scientific significance.
