Geology & Origin

Fergusonite-(Nd) is a rare oxide mineral of the Fergusonite group containing rare-earth elements, with “(Nd)” indicating neodymium as the dominant rare-earth element. The Iveland region in southern Norway is particularly known for its granitic pegmatites. These pegmatites formed from late-stage magmatic melts and fluids enriched in rare elements and host diverse mineralization including niobium, tantalum and rare-earth elements.
