This micromount specimen features Fairbankite crystals on a dark brown to grayish-brown matrix with small cavities and differently textured mineral areas. The fine crystals occur in and on the matrix and, due to their small size, are particularly suited for observation under magnification. The specimen originates from Tombstone, Arizona, USA, and is offered as a unique piece.

Geology & Origin

Fairbankite is a rare tellurium mineral belonging to the selenite-tellurite minerals. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of tellurium-bearing ore deposits. The historic Tombstone mining district in Arizona is known for its complex ore mineralization and the occurrence of various rare secondary minerals.
