This small cabinet specimen features Eskolaite crystals with a dark gray to nearly black coloration and a pronounced metallic luster. The crystals and crystalline areas form a compact, highly lustrous surface that reflects silvery to bronze tones depending on the incident light. This unique specimen originates from Outokumpu, Finland.

Geology & Origin

Eskolaite is a rare chromium oxide with the chemical formula Cr₂O₃ and occurs primarily in chromium-rich metamorphic rocks and certain ore deposits. Outokumpu is an internationally renowned Finnish mining district known for its exceptionally diverse mineralization and numerous rare mineral species.
