Erythrite crystals from Wechselschacht, Richelsdorf, Hesse, Germany – miniature specimen as unique piece

 

This small cabinet specimen features numerous Erythrite crystals in intense pink to vivid red hues, densely covering large areas of the matrix. The fine crystals locally form dense, crust-like aggregates and give the specimen its distinctive coloration. This unique specimen originates from the Wechselschacht near Richelsdorf in Hesse, Germany.

Geology & Origin

Erythrite is a secondary cobalt arsenate that typically forms in the oxidation zones of cobalt-bearing ore deposits. The Richelsdorf mining district in Hesse is a historic mining area particularly known for copper and cobalt ores as well as diverse secondary mineralization. The Wechselschacht is one of the classic mineralogical localities of this district.
