Erythrite crystals from Wechselschacht, Richelsdorf, Hesse, Germany – miniature specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features numerous pink to vivid reddish-pink Erythrite xls covering extensive areas of the matrix and occurring particularly concentrated along small cavities. The fine xls form dense, partly radiating aggregates and give this unique specimen its characteristic intense coloration. The specimen originates from the Wechselschacht near Richelsdorf in Hesse, Germany.
Geology & Origin
Erythrite is a hydrous cobalt arsenate that typically forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of cobalt-bearing ore deposits. The historic mining district of the Richelsdorf Mountains is known for its diverse copper, cobalt, and arsenic mineralization. The Wechselschacht is one of the classic localities in the region for such secondary minerals.
