This small cabinet specimen features numerous brown to ochre-colored Ernstite xls with distinctly elongated and partly strongly striated forms. The xls form densely intergrown groups and aggregates and occur as pseudomorphs after Childrenite. This unique specimen originates from Linópolis, Brazil.
Geology & Origin
Ernstite is a rare iron-aluminum phosphate that can form through the alteration of Childrenite while retaining its original crystal shape. Such pseudomorphs document mineralogical alteration processes within phosphate-rich pegmatites. The Linópolis area in Minas Gerais is known for its granitic pegmatites and diverse phosphate mineralization.
