Embedded Epistolite crystals from Ilimaussaq, Greenland, Denmark – miniature specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen features embedded Epistolite xls in a light beige to brownish matrix. The xls are enclosed within the rock and stand out through their platy to tabular structures. This unique specimen originates from the Ilímaussaq complex in Greenland, Denmark.

Geology & Origin

Epistolite is a rare sodium-titanium-niobium silicate characteristically found in highly alkaline rocks. The Ilímaussaq complex in southern Greenland is one of the world's important localities for rare mineral species and is particularly known for its agpaitic rocks. The unusual geochemistry of this intrusion enabled the formation of numerous rare sodium-, titanium-, and niobium-bearing minerals.
