Epistilbite crystals from Poona, India – miniature specimen as unique piece
This small cabinet specimen features colorless to whitish-transparent Epistilbite xls on a light-colored matrix. Particularly striking is the larger, well-developed xl in the center, accompanied by several smaller xls and displaying a vitreous luster. This unique specimen originates from Poona, India.
Geology & Origin
Epistilbite belongs to the zeolite group and typically forms as a secondary mineral in cavities within volcanic rocks. The Poona region, now Pune, lies within the extensive basalt sequences of the Deccan Traps and is well known for mineral-rich cavities containing numerous zeolite species. Characteristic Epistilbite xls associated with other secondary minerals occur in these cavities.
