This cabinet specimen features numerous yellowish-green to olive-green Epidote xls densely distributed across the light-colored matrix. The xls predominantly occur in elongated prismatic forms and locally form small groups and aggregates. This unique specimen originates from Huneberg in the Harz Mountains, Germany.
Geology & Origin
Epidote is a calcium-aluminum-iron silicate that commonly forms during hydrothermal and low- to medium-grade metamorphic processes. In the Harz Mountains, Epidote occurs in hydrothermally altered rocks and fractures, where mineral-rich fluids enabled the formation of its characteristic green xls.
