This cabinet specimen shows Empressite and Coloradoite in a predominantly dark grey to black, finely textured mineralization on a lighter matrix. Metallic-looking areas and isolated yellowish patches stand out distinctly against the dark surface. This unique specimen comes from the Klondike Mine in Saguache County, Colorado, USA.
Geology & Origin
Empressite is a rare silver telluride, while Coloradoite is a rare mercury telluride. Both minerals occur in hydrothermal deposits and are characteristic of telluride-rich mineralization. The Klondike Mine in Colorado is known as a locality for various tellurium minerals and is therefore of particular interest for systematic mineral collections.
