Elpasolite crystals from Le Cetine, Tuscany, Italy – micromount as unique piece
This micromount displays Elpasolite crystals on a dark grey to black matrix with light whitish-grey mineral areas. The small crystals occur in cavities and on the irregularly textured surface of the matrix, where they form fine crystalline areas. A red marker points to the corresponding mineralization. This unique specimen comes from Le Cetine in Tuscany, Italy.
Geology & Origin
Elpasolite is a rare potassium-sodium-aluminium fluoride that occurs in fluorine-rich mineralization. The Le Cetine locality in Tuscany is particularly known for its unusual and diverse fluoride mineralization, including numerous rare mineral species. Mineral formation at this locality is associated with hydrothermal processes and fluorine-bearing fluids.
