Ellenbergerite from Martiniana Po, Liguria, Italy – micromount as unique piece
This micromount displays Ellenbergerite in a light, predominantly pale pink to slightly violet appearance. The small mineral specimen has an irregular, partly translucent surface with a vitreous lustre and individual dark inclusions. This unique specimen comes from Martiniana Po, Italy.
Geology & Origin
Ellenbergerite is a rare magnesium-aluminium silicate that forms under high-grade metamorphic conditions. The occurrence near Martiniana Po in the Italian Western Alps is associated with metamorphic rocks that were subjected to high pressures and temperatures during Alpine mountain building. These geological conditions enabled the formation of rare mineral phases such as Ellenbergerite.
