Ekdemite crystlas from Pacha Limani, Laurion, Greece –  micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Ekdemite crystals from Pacha Limani, Laurion, Greece, shows a characteristic appearance of this rare arsenate mineral from one of the most classic mineral localities in Europe. The surface appears mostly compact and finely structured, with the Ekdemite crystals only small and rather subtly developed.

The crystals can be recognized on closer inspection as fine, spotty to granular coatings, but they do not form clearly isolated crystals. Instead, they create an irregular, matte surface on the dark, partly porous matrix. Despite the subtle crystal development, the specimen has strong collector value due to its rarity and the important locality.

Geology & Origin

The Laurion area in Greece is one of the most famous localities worldwide for rare secondary minerals, especially arsenates and lead minerals. Ekdemite forms there in the oxidized zones of complex ore deposits and typically occurs in very fine crystalline form. Well developed crystals are uncommon, making such typical compact specimens especially interesting for specialized collectors.
