Effenbergerite crystals in Sugilite from the Wessels Mine, Kuruman, South Africa – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Effenbergerite crystals in Sugilite from the Wessels Mine, Kuruman, South Africa, shows a visually attractive and mineralogically interesting combination of two rare minerals. The purple Sugilite forms the dominant matrix and gives the specimen its intense and characteristic color.

The Effenbergerite crystals are finely distributed and appear as small darker to slightly contrasting areas within the Sugilite. They are not free standing but embedded, forming compact granular aggregates. The crystalline nature is present, although rather subtle. The combination of the vivid purple Sugilite and the included Effenbergerite crystals makes this specimen particularly appealing.

Geology & Origin

The Wessels Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field is world renowned for its exceptional diversity of rare minerals. Sugilite forms here under specific conditions in manganese rich deposits and is among the most sought after collector minerals. Effenbergerite occurs as a rare associated mineral within this assemblage and contributes to the complex paragenesis of this unique locality.
