Edoylerite crystals on Cinnabar from Clear Creek, CA, USA –  micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Edoylerite crystals on Cinnabar from Clear Creek, California, USA, shows a highly contrasting and mineralogically remarkable association. The light, partly yellowish to beige matrix hosts intense red areas of Cinnabar, locally accompanied by fine Edoylerite crystals.

The Edoylerite crystals are small and appear as delicate crystalline coatings or aggregates on the surface of the Cinnabar. Individual crystal forms are only clearly visible under magnification, but the crystalline nature is evident. The vivid red color of the Cinnabar creates an attractive contrast with the lighter matrix, giving the specimen a distinctive aesthetic appeal.

Geology & Origin

Clear Creek, California, is known for a wide variety of rare mercury and arsenic minerals formed in hydrothermal deposits. Cinnabar, as the primary mercury ore, forms at relatively low temperatures, while rare associated minerals like Edoylerite develop secondarily through complex geochemical processes. Such associations are typical for this mineralogically diverse region and are highly appreciated by collectors.
