Embedded Eckermannite crystals from Norra Kärr, Sweden – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with embedded Eckermannite crystals from Norra Kärr, Sweden, shows a characteristic appearance of this rare amphibole mineral. The Eckermannite crystals are clearly embedded in the matrix and appear as elongated dark green to grey green crystal sections forming a directional, streaked structure within the rock.

The crystals are visible but not free standing, instead fully embedded and part of the compact structure. This creates a typical parallel oriented texture with a slightly silky luster on fracture surfaces. The combination of structure and color gives the specimen clear mineralogical significance and makes it especially interesting for systematic collectors.

Geology & Origin

Norra Kärr in Sweden is an important locality for rare alkaline rocks and their mineral assemblages. Eckermannite forms there in nepheline rich, compositionally complex magmatic rocks and is typical for such geochemical environments. The locality is well studied and provides valuable insights into rare magmatic processes.

This table is for general information and orientation, although the sizes of the stones may vary. In addition, this specification is handled differently from region to region.
