Dussertite crystals from Dernbach, Westerwald, Germany – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen shows Dussertite crystals from Dernbach, Westerwald, Germany. The piece comes from a classic German locality and presents an attractive combination of brown to black mineral areas on contrasting matrix.

The Dussertite crystals are clearly visible and form fine grained to granular crystalline aggregates with a slightly lustrous surface. The crystals show a compact habit and stand out distinctly from the ochre colored matrix, giving the specimen an appealing visual contrast.

Geology & Origin

Dussertite is a rare barium iron arsenate belonging to the crandallite group. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of arsenic rich deposits, often associated with other arsenate minerals.

The Westerwald region in Germany is known for its diverse secondary mineralization. The deposits near Dernbach have produced numerous rare arsenates, including well developed Dussertite crystals from the oxidation zones of historic ore deposits.
