Dypingite crystals from Clear Creek, CA, USA – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen with Dypingite crystals from Clear Creek, California, USA, shows a typical appearance of this rare magnesium carbonate mineral. The Dypingite crystals occur as fine white to slightly translucent spherical aggregates forming small, evenly distributed crystal coatings on the greenish matrix.

The crystals are clearly visible and form numerous small rounded clusters with a matte to slightly silky surface. They are in strong contrast to the compact green serpentine matrix, making the delicate crystal formations stand out well. Overall, this creates a harmonious combination of color, structure and typical mineral formation.

Geology & Origin

Clear Creek in California is a well known locality for magnesium minerals in ultramafic rocks such as serpentinite. Dypingite forms there as a secondary mineral through weathering processes of magnesium rich rocks. Typical are fine crystalline to spherical aggregates forming in cracks and on surfaces. The locality is especially appreciated by collectors for its variety of rare and characteristic mineral formations.
