Durangite crystlas from Thomas Range, UT, USA – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Durangite crystals from the Thomas Range, Utah, USA, shows a highly attractive and vividly colored example of this rare fluorophosphate mineral. The Durangite crystals display bright orange to reddish brown tones and form dense, well visible crystal aggregates on the matrix.

The crystals are well developed and exhibit a clearly crystalline structure with numerous small, lustrous faces. They are positioned in strong contrast on a light colored, fine fibrous to acicular matrix, which enhances the vivid coloration. The combination of strong color, good crystal development and clear contrast makes this specimen particularly aesthetic and collectible.

Geology & Origin

The Thomas Range in Utah is a classic locality for rare fluorine and phosphate minerals formed in rhyolitic rocks and cavities. Durangite forms under specific geochemical conditions and is typically found as small but well formed crystals. The locality is internationally known for its diversity of rare and vividly colored minerals.
