Top Dundasite crystals on Cerussite crystals from Ohneaux, Ardennes, Belgium – miniature specimen as unique piece
This miniature specimen shows Dundasite crystals on Cerussite crystals from Ohneaux, Ardennes, Belgium. The piece stands out with its attractive combination of two secondary lead minerals and the aesthetic development of the crystals.
The Cerussite crystals are clearly visible as elongated, partly radial aggregates in yellowish to honey colored tones, forming the structural base of the specimen. On top of them, fine whitish Dundasite crystals have developed as delicate coatings and needle like aggregates. The contrast between the warm tones of Cerussite and the light almost frosty Dundasite crystals creates a particularly appealing appearance. The crystals are clearly visible and form a lively crystalline surface.
Geology & Origin
Dundasite is a rare lead aluminium carbonate hydroxide that forms in the oxidation zone of lead deposits. Cerussite is a common secondary lead carbonate that develops through the weathering of primary lead ores.
The Ohneaux locality in the Ardennes is known for its diverse secondary mineral formations. Especially in the oxidized zones, interesting associations such as Dundasite on Cerussite occur and are appreciated by collectors for both their aesthetics and rarity.
