Duhamelite and Shattuckite cystals from Sonora, Mexico – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen shows Duhamelite and Shattuckite crystals from Sonora, Mexico. The piece stands out with its intense blue green coloration and the typical appearance of secondary copper mineralization from this well known locality.

The crystals occur as velvety to finely fibrous coatings and dense aggregates in strong blue to blue green tones. Shattuckite is especially visible in its characteristic vivid coloration, while Duhamelite adds additional structure to the surface. The crystals form a lively, irregular surface with a distinct texture, creating a very attractive overall appearance. Individual crystals are not sharply defined but merge into fine crystalline aggregates.

Geology & Origin

Duhamelite and Shattuckite are secondary copper minerals that form in the oxidation zone of copper deposits. They develop through the alteration of primary copper sulfides under the influence of oxygen rich solutions.

The Sonora region in Mexico is world famous for its diverse and highly colorful copper mineralizations. The oxidation zones in particular produce a wide range of rare and visually striking minerals, including Shattuckite and Duhamelite.
