Dufrenoysite crystals from the Lengenbach Mine, Binntal, Switzerland – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen shows Dufrenoysite crystals from the Lengenbach Mine, Binntal, Switzerland. The piece comes from one of the world’s most important localities for rare sulfosalts and displays a typical habit of this mineral.

The Dufrenoysite crystals are visible and form fine grained to compact crystalline aggregates with a slightly metallic luster. The crystals are mostly small and densely intergrown, creating a uniform and subtly sparkling surface. Individual crystal areas can still be distinguished and contribute to the aesthetic appeal of the specimen.

Geology & Origin

Dufrenoysite is a rare lead arsenic sulfosalt belonging to the group of complex sulfide minerals. It forms in hydrothermal deposits, often in carbonate host rocks under specific chemical conditions.

The Lengenbach Mine in Binntal is world famous for its exceptional diversity of rare sulfosalts. The unique geology of this deposit has produced numerous rare mineral species, including well developed Dufrenoysite crystals.
