Donpeacorite and Turnerite from Balmat, St. Lawrence Co., NY, USA – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This cabinet specimen shows Donpeacorite and Turnerite from Balmat, St. Lawrence Co., New York, USA. The piece comes from a well known locality for complex zinc manganese mineralization and presents an interesting combination of two rare mineral species.

The Donpeacorite and Turnerite crystals are visible and form fine grained to compact crystalline aggregates with a partly slightly lustrous surface. The crystals occur in close intergrowth and show a differentiated structure within the matrix, creating a varied and mineralogically appealing appearance.

Geology & Origin

Donpeacorite is a rare zinc manganese silicate, while Turnerite belongs to the phosphate group. Both minerals form under specific conditions in complex metamorphosed deposits and are typical associates in polymetallic ore systems.

Balmat in St. Lawrence County, New York, is an important locality for zinc deposits with complex mineral paragenesis. The deposits are known for a wide variety of rare minerals, including Donpeacorite and Turnerite from metamorphically influenced ore bodies.
