Diadochite from Richelle, Ardennes, Belgium – miniature specimen as unique piece

This miniature specimen shows Diadochite from Richelle, Ardennes, Belgium. The piece comes from a classic locality for secondary iron and phosphate minerals and displays a typical earthy to finely crystalline appearance.

The Diadochite crystals occur as brownish to yellow brown fine crystalline coatings and aggregates on the matrix. They appear mostly compact and finely structured, with some crystalline areas visible but without clearly developed free standing crystals. The crystals give the surface a slightly granular to matte texture.

Geology & Origin

Diadochite is a hydrated iron phosphate sulfate that forms in the oxidation zone of iron rich deposits. It develops through the weathering of primary minerals under the influence of oxygen rich and phosphate bearing solutions.

The Richelle area in the Ardennes is known for its diverse secondary mineral formations. The oxidation zones in particular produce a range of rare and characteristic minerals such as Diadochite, valued for their geological formation and typical appearance.
