Devilline and Linarite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen with Devilline and Linarite crystals from the Tsumeb Mine, Otavi Mountains, Namibia was collected before 1987. The specimen displays a dark matrix covered by intensely blue crystal formations that create a striking color contrast.

The crystals occur in fine, densely packed aggregates forming a sparkling crystalline coating across the surface of the specimen. The deep blue color of the Linarite crystals contrasts clearly with the lighter blue green areas of Devilline, producing a particularly attractive mineral association typical for the oxidized zone of the deposit.

Geology & Origin

The Tsumeb Mine in the Otavi Mountains of Namibia is one of the most mineralogically important deposits in the world. In the oxidized zone of the complex mineralized carbonate body, numerous secondary copper, lead and sulfate minerals formed. Linarite is a basic lead copper sulfate well known for its intense blue crystals. Devilline is a hydrated copper sulfate mineral that commonly occurs as fine crystalline coatings or small crystal aggregates associated with other secondary copper minerals.
