Delafossite crystals from Bisbee, AZ, USA – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen features Delafossite crystals from Bisbee, Arizona, USA. The piece appears on a reddish brown to dark brown matrix with numerous lustrous crystal areas ranging from dark red to nearly black. The surface is irregular and finely structured, with the Delafossite crystals standing out clearly from the surrounding rock.

The crystals are well developed and show a characteristic metallic to submetallic luster. They occur as small granular to fine crystalline aggregates, giving the specimen a lively and contrasting appearance.

Geology & Origin

Delafossite is a copper iron oxide that typically forms in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. It develops as a secondary mineral under the influence of oxygen and hydrothermal processes and is often associated with other copper minerals.

Bisbee in Arizona is a classic locality for a wide variety of rare and aesthetically appealing copper minerals. The deposits of this region are world famous for their mineralogical diversity and produce high quality collector specimens.
