Embedded Defernite crystlas from the Kombat Mine, Otavi, Namibia – small cabinet specimen as unique piece

This small cabinet specimen features embedded Defernite crystals from the Kombat Mine in the Otavi region of Namibia. The piece presents a dark, slightly metallic shimmering matrix with numerous brown to bronze colored crystal areas embedded throughout. The surface appears dense and finely crystalline, creating a lively interplay of luster and texture.

The Defernite crystals are clearly recognizable as embedded, elongated to irregular crystal sections. They show a characteristic metallic to resinous luster and stand out distinctly from the darker matrix. Despite their embedded nature, the crystal forms are well traceable and give the specimen a strong and mineralogically interesting appearance.

Geology & Origin

Defernite is a rare iron arsenate mineral that typically forms in the oxidized zones of complex ore deposits. It develops as a secondary mineral through the alteration of primary sulfide minerals under the influence of oxygen and circulating solutions.

The Kombat Mine in the Otavi Mountains is a classic locality in Namibia, known for a wide variety of rare and collectible minerals. The deposit is especially notable for its complex parageneses formed under diverse geochemical conditions.
