Dadsonite from St. Pons, Hautes Alpes, France – miniature specimen as unique piece

This small miniature specimen shows Dadsonite from St. Pons, Hautes Alpes, France. The piece consists of a massive, irregularly structured matrix with grey to dark metallic looking areas contrasting with lighter beige to brown sections.

Well formed crystals are not clearly visible in this specimen. Instead, the mineral appears mostly massive and embedded within the matrix, creating a compact, granular to slightly lustrous surface. The varied texture and strong color contrasts still give the piece an interesting and collectible appearance.

Geology & Origin

Dadsonite is a rare lead antimony sulfosalt mineral that forms in hydrothermal ore veins. It typically occurs in complex associations with other sulfide and sulfosalt minerals.

St. Pons in the Hautes Alpes is a classic locality for a wide range of rare ore minerals. The region is well known for its complex hydrothermal deposits, which have produced many unusual and scientifically important mineral species.
