Curetonite from Golconda, NV, USA – micromount as unique piece

This micromount specimen shows Curetonite from Golconda, Nevada, USA. The piece consists of a contrasting combination of lighter partially translucent matrix and darker metallic looking areas, giving the specimen a distinctive structure.

The Curetonite crystals are present but mostly occur in compact intergrown formations. Some crystalline areas can be identified and display a subtle luster, with the overall habit appearing rather massive to finely crystalline.

Geology & Origin

Curetonite is a rare secondary mineral that forms in the oxidation zone of metal rich deposits. It typically develops under complex geochemical conditions and is often associated with other rare mineral phases.

Golconda in Nevada is a well known locality for a wide range of unusual and rare minerals, especially from hydrothermal environments with diverse secondary mineralization.
